The Go-To Advisor
Krys Gonzalez
Higher education is complex, overwhelming, and for any student, impossible to navigate alone. Most advisors will point you in a direction. The handful of good ones will give you a plan. But it is rare to find an advisor who maps out a strong plan, prepares a backup before obstacles arise, eases the process at every turn, and configures your academic position into a competitive one. That is exactly what I do. It is why students seek me out by name, wait for my availability, and still call me years after they have graduated.
I know this journey from the inside. As a first-generation college student, I navigated higher education without a roadmap. Those experiences gave me an intimate understanding of where the system fails students and what it takes to succeed within it anyway. That path led me to the University of Michigan, where I earned my MSW from the #1 ranked program in the country. With nearly two decades in higher education, from student worker to professor and academic counselor, every role in between gave me a wider lens than most. I have worked across institutions from community colleges, CSUDH, USC, and University of Michigan. That range has given me a deep, firsthand understanding of how these systems work, where they fall short, and exactly how to navigate them on behalf of my students
I don't wait for problems to arise. I anticipate them, plan around them, and ensure every student has multiple pathways to success. That is my strategy and strength-based practice. I handle the complexity so you can focus on what matters most: showing up and moving forward. I don't just advise. I strategize, strengthen, solve, and deliver. My work ethic is rooted in something deeper: I genuinely care about the people I serve. That care is reflected in everything I do: how I listen, the warmth I bring to every interaction, the thoroughness of my planning, and the comprehensiveness of my service. My students feel it and it shows in their outcomes.
The results speak for themselves. My students have gone on to UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Columbia, law school, MBA programs, medical school, and international institutions. Some of those journeys span ten years and counting. Whichever goal you are aiming for, I have the experience and will build you the plan to get there. Whatever you are facing, I have either solved it before or I am already three steps ahead of it. That is what it means to work with The Go-To Advisor.
